The cities of Houston, Conroe, Huntsville, Navasota, Bryan and Sugar Land, in addition to Grimes County, are proclaiming September 12 as Good Deed Day in their communities. For more details, see News & Press.

 

Sugar Land Mayor Proclaims September 12 Good Deed Day
Mayor David Wallace of Sugar Land, Texas signed a proclamation on August 22nd declaring September 12th as "Good Deed Day" in the city of Sugar Land. The proclamation asks the people of Sugar Land to perform at least one good deed on September 12th and to wear a green ribbon to help commemorate Good Deed Day.

The ceremony was held at the Sugar Land City Hall after Mayor Wallace had a short chat with the Scouts who attended the event. Mayor Wallace explained the function of city government and explained how city government works to provide services.

The Scouts who attended the event included Jordan Jones, Josh Holub, Hayden Clark, Austin Holub, Shane Allegeier, Keith Wedelich, and Oliver Mao. Adult Unit leader Hank Wedelin and Tomahawk District Executive Terry Taylor were also in attendance. Mayor Wallace presented the proclamation to Eagle Scout Shane Allgeier, who accepted the document on behalf of the Sam Houston Area Council, Boy Scouts of America. Council volunteer, Karen Holub of Fort Bend County presented Mayor Wallace with a BSA Emblem pin to thank him for the proclamation and to recognize his efforts to spread the word about Good Deed Day.

Huntsville Item reported on the recent proclamation presentation in Huntsville. Following is an excerpt.

Mayor J. Turner proclaimed Sept. 12 “Good Deeds Day” in Huntsville, as presented to the Sam Houston chapter of the Boy Scouts. He said the outpouring of compassion shown throughout the world on behalf of youths and adults should be exemplified now and in the future. He said everyone should do what they can to make a difference, especially on a day set aside for just that purpose.

“(We) need to promote compassion and caring through good deeds of youth and citizens,” Turner said. “I am encouraging all people and local entities to participate.”

The Navasota Examiner carried a news item that Mayor Bert Miller is reminding Navasota residents of the city's involvement in “Good Deed Day”, Tuesday, September 12, and is asking that everyone join in the observance by performing a good deed. To make the event official, Mayor Miller signed a proclamation at Monday's regular Council meeting. Above, Mayor Miller (center) with his City Council.

The Bryan Eagle also carried a news story describing how Mayor Ernie Wentrcek and Navasota Mayor Bert Miller are encouraging residents in their respective cities to do a good deed on Tuesday. Above, Caleb Jenkins, 9 (right), and Jordan Johnson, 9, help load boxes for Twin City Mission on Monday at Sam Houston Elementary in Bryan. Students collected items for two weeks to fill the boxes.
